All small businesses need what I call the Fundamental Four. A WordPress Blog and profiles on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. There are hundreds of social media sites, but a small business with limited time and money needs to concentrate on these four.
WordPress
If you already have a website, add a WordPress blog to it. It’s not difficult and the search engines love them – so you’ll increase your rankings straight away.
Twitter
Secondly, I usually suggest Twitter. It’s easy to set up and to use and there are some great tools which help.
Facebook
Did you know that Facebook has 600 million+ users on it? It’s getting to the stage where it will have more than double the population of the USA on Facebook. That’s not only incredible – but it’s a place where a huge portion of your market is hanging out. Particularly 18-35 year olds. A stat I saw recently was that 96% of 18-35 year olds have a presence on at least one social network. Forget TV advertising, newspapers and Yellow Pages. Social media is a better bet – and a lot cheaper!
YouTube
Lastly, YouTube. The number 2 search engine in the world after Google! I cannot think of a business that shouldn’t use YouTube. You must put videos on your site.
Traffic
But this is not about being left behind or being trendy. This is purely about getting more traffic to your website. And once there, you need to convert that traffic. It’s simple to do all of this, but very time-consuming. You are busy running your business, so that’s where we come in. You do what you are good at and we will do what we are good at!
